Mahapurush Madhavdava. constructed a kind of stage named Rangial Ghar with a view to performing songs, dance, bhauna etc. in Barpeta. He had made Shri Mathura Das Aata chief (adhikar) of this institution before he went to Kochbihar. This Rangial Ghar caught fire in an accident and burnt to ashes. Mathura Das Aata established Kirtan Ghar at the same site. This is the biggest Vaishnavite temple of Assam. There is a faith or saying that — that pitcher gets filled with oil automatically. Yatra-Bhaona etc are performed at the open area in front of Kirtan Ghar. Women are not allowed to enter into Kirtan Ghar. Women can sit in the portico, but they can not enter into the main house. Legend says that, Mathura Das Aata’s wife used to light-up earthen lamps during his absence.
